Composition:
The flowering aerial parts of the St. John’s wort plant (Hypericum perforatum).
Active principles:
Volatile oil, polyphenolic derivatives (hyperazide), rutoside, quercetol, ascorbic acid, caffeic and chlorogenic acid, mineral salts, catechin tannins (up to 12%), hypericin.
Therapeutic properties:
Cholesterol, cholagogue, antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, healing, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, antidepressant.
Recommendations:
Internal: Adjuvant in acute and chronic hepatitis, cholecystitis, ulcer, biliary dyskinesia, inflammatory diseases of the bronchial, genitourinary and digestive mucosa. Acts as antiulcer, choleretic, cholagogue, antihypertensive, vasodilator, antihemorrhagic, antihemorrhoidal, diuretic, sedative, antidepressant, analgesic and antidiarrheal. It is useful in mild depressive states, especially during menopause and in the elderly.
External: Soothes pain, accelerates wound healing (especially in the case of burns), has an antipruritic, trophic and protective effect in various skin lesions (cracks, abrasions, sunburn, buttock erythema) and in oropharyngeal inflammations.
Administration:
Internal: Infusion – 1 teaspoon of product per cup of boiling water, covered and left to infuse for 10-15 minutes. Sweeten to taste and consume 2-3 cups per day.
External: Concentrated infusion – 2 teaspoons of plant in 100 ml of boiling water, infused for 10-15 minutes. Apply to the skin in the form of compresses or poultices to relieve pain and heal wounds, especially in the case of burns.
Contraindications:
May cause photodermatosis in sensitive individuals. It is recommended to avoid consumption during drug treatments (contraceptives, antibiotics, etc.).
