Precautions

Vitamin D3 may interact with certain medications, such as:

Orlistat (for weight control) – may reduce the absorption of vitamin D;

Statins (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin, lovastatin) – efficacy may be impaired at high doses of vitamin D;

Corticosteroids (e.g. prednisone) – may decrease blood levels of vitamin D;

Thiazide diuretics – may increase blood calcium levels when taken with vitamin D.

Taking very high doses of vitamin D may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness, confusion, excessive thirst, frequent urination, dehydration or loss of appetite.
