Maca is an annual plant, cultivated in a mountain area, in the center of Peru, South America.
The maca root resembles the radish and it is an important food source for the local people, because of its famous nutritional qualities. In Peru, maca has been worshipped for over 2,000 years. The legend says thay warriors ate maca before going to battle, in order to gain strength and resistance. The Spanish conquistadors called it the “sexual stimulant of the Incas”. Nowadays, maca is known as the “Peruvian Ginseng”. Recent studies have shown that it favours the libido, sexual potency and that it boosts the vital energy.

Women in South America have been using maca for thousands of years to maintain their vitality, to prevent fatigue and to reduce the effects of stress. Peruvian women consume maca from the age of three years and they remain strong, fertile and productive, with a tremendous vitality up to old age. Maca can boost the libido of women, but for the best results, it should be consumed daily.

The nutritional value of the dried root is very high, being similar to that of cereal grains (rice, wheat).
